EDSA People Power Revolution


In 1986, the EDSA People Power Revolution happened in the Philippines. Millions of unarmed Filipinos surprised the world by overthrowing Ferdinand Marcos, because they want Cory Aquino to be the President. The revolution, ran from February 22 to February 25 and the Revolution was named after Epifanio de los Santos Avenue or EDSA, where the majority of the protests took place. It is also known as the Yellow Revolution, after Aquino’s campaign color. Millions of yellow ribbons were hanged and scattered in the streets of Manila. The main reason of the EDSA is because of the assassination of Benigno Aquino, Jr. in 1983 Alleged fraud during the 1986. So the result was: End of Marcos Era (1965-1986), Marcos was exiled in Hawaii, the Fifth Philippine Republic started, Corazon Aquino became the President of the Philippines.

ICT was a big help during the Revolution. It helped the people by giving information through Radios,television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning. It also helped the Filipinos from Visayas and Mindanao to be informed during the Revolution.
